Marywood Prevails over Bryn Mawr

Bryn Mawr, Pa. —Marywood University used a dominant first and third quarter to pull away for a 66–53 road victory over Bryn Mawr on Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium Saturday in non-conference women's basketball. 

Anyah Ortiz led the Pacers (2–3) with 16 points and eight rebounds on 6-of-9 shooting, anchoring an interior attack that produced 38 points in the paint. Megan Cavoli came off the bench to provide a major lift, finishing with 14 points. Olivia Ciullo added 13 points and six boards.

Marywood wasted no time setting the tone, racing out to a 20–9 lead after the first quarter with a 9–0 run to open the game. The Pacers shot 53.8 percent in the period and never trailed. Bryn Mawr broke through offensively in the second quarter but still trailed 36–30 at halftime.

Marywood seized full control after the break, holding the Owls to just five points in the third quarter while scoring 19 of its own. Ortiz scored seven in the frame as the Pacers stretched the lead to 20.

Bryn Mawr (4–3) narrowed the gap late, but Marywood's depth and interior scoring held firm. The Pacers' second unit contributed 20 points, led by Cavoli and Alli Anstadt, who posted six points and four rebounds in 14 minutes.

The Pacers shot 44.3 percent from the floor and forced 14 turnovers while turning them into 15 points at the other end. They never trailed and led by as many as 21.

Jenna Vollor paced Bryn Mawr with 12 points, and Maddy Patel added 11.

Marywood continues its nonconference slate next week against John Jay College.
