Women's Lacrosse Braves Frigid Temps, Downs Misericordia in Home Opener

Scranton, Pa. – In single-digit temps, Marywood University women's lacrosse defeated Misericordia University 12-5 on Wednesday. Marywood defeated the Cougars for the first time since 2018. 

Avery Meighan had three goals, and Alli Duncan and Kaitlyn Smith each had two. 

The Pacers got things started with a goal off a free position in the 3rd minute giving Marywood the early, 1-0 lead. 

The Cougars made it a 1-1 game with a goal in the 11th minute.

Meighan connected with Jessica Banta to help the Pacers take the lead again, however, Misericordia struck back late in the first quarter to tie it back up heading into the second period. 

The Pacers collected four goals in the second period to post a 6-3 lead heading into halftime. 

Duncan collected both her goals in the third period giving the Pacers an 8-4 advantage.

Marywood allowed one goal in the fourth to cut the lead, 8-5. Smith and Meighan responded with back to back goals within a minute of each other to put Marywood up, 10-5. 

Later in the period, Natalie Yilanjian and Kortney Harry tallied goals giving the Pacers a 12-5 victory. 

The Pacers improve to 1-1 on the young season. 

Jenna Scala was in goal for the Pacers and made seven saves. 

Marywood outshot Misericordia, 32-18.

The Pacers will be back in action on Saturday with a road game against Lycoming College.
