Marywood Stunned by Lasers in Doubleheader

Lasell wins the second game in extra innings

Fort Piece, Fla. — Marywood University lost a pair of one-run games to remain winless during its spring break baseball trip on Tuesday. The Pacers fell 2-1 and 11-10 to the Lasers.

Lasell evens the series history at 2-2. The Pacers swept the Lasers in 2023.

Game 1: Lasell 2, Marywood 1 (7 inn.)

Lasell scored two runs in the bottom of the first and hung on for a 2-1 victory in seven innings.

Jeremy Blackwood was victorious in the pitcher's duel, holding the Pacers to six hits and zero earned runs in seven innings. Marywood's Max Ryan tossed four innings with seven strikeouts.

Lasell scored twice in the first. Tim Callahan hit a two-out single to left center, followed by a Connor Freitas walk. Pierce Clare singled down the left line, and both runs scored on an error.

Marywood scored one in the top of the sixth. Christian Michak reached via an error by the shortstop. After Michak swiped second base, Adam Ginsberg hit an RBI single to center field.

Lasell stranded the Marywood's potential game-tying run at second base.

Game 2: Lasell 11, Marywood 10 (8 inn.)

In contrast to the Ryan-Blackwood pitcher's duel, Marywood and Lasell played to 21 total runs and nine errors.

Marywood came back from a three-run deficit to take the game and send it into extra innings.

Trailing by one, Marywood scored on a AJ Giannetti sacrifice fly. After Tristian Gatchalain was hit by a pitch and Ginsberg walked to put runners on base with no outs, Evan Reccek sacrifice bunted to put two runners in scoring position. Giannetti hit a fly to centerfield to score Gatchalain.

In the eighth, Whitby reached on a single and advanced two bases on an error. After Nielsen reached on a fielder's choice bunt, D. Silva hit a single to center field that scored Whitby. Michak was credited with an outfield assist.

Michak finished with three runs on two hits, two steals, and two RBIs. Gatchalain tripled as part of a 2 for 4 effort with three runs.

Evan Bruder had three hits for the Pacers.

Coach Jason Thiel's squad will take on Thiel College on Thursday.
