Michak Breaks Stolen Base Record in Split with TomCats

Tristan Gatchalain drives in three RBIs in opener

Ft. Pierce, Fla. — Junior Christian Michak broke the Marywood University baseball career school record with his 68th stolen base. The Pacers split a doubleheader with Thiel College. 

Marywood won the opening game 9-7 before falling 12-6 in the nightcap. 

The Pacers lead the series history 3-1. Marywood swept Thiel last season.

Game 1: Marywood 9, Thiel 7 (7 inn.)

Brett Kugler threw five innings of relief to secure the win. Kugler allowed three earned runs with seven strikeouts. Owen Reilly notched his second save of the season. 

Thiel scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Kugler forced a pop out with the tying run at the plate. 

Tristan Gatchalain went 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Gatchalain hit a triple. 

Michak stole two bases to break Joe Diskin's school record. Michak scored two runs. 

Tanner Vicendese batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Coleman McCain came off the bench to provided two RBIs. 

In the fourth, Michak tied the game with an RBI triple to score Michak. With two runners in scoring position, Marywood went ahead 5-4 on a wild pitch that brought in AJ Giannetti

The Pacers tallied four runs in the sixth. The top of the lineup hit three consecutive singles with Gatchalain's single scoring Michak for the go-ahead run. 

Game 2: Thiel 12, Marywood 6 (7 inn.)

The TomCats made the best of five defensive errors. 

Aidan Dolan pitched a scoreless inning, and Matt Fagnant got two outs in two at-bats. 

Michak stole a pair of bases. Both Michak and Vicendese hit triples. 

Marywood takes on Gettysburg and Wabash to close out its spring break.
