Baseball Cannonballs Wabash in the Ninth

Marywood falls to undefeated Gettysburg in the opener

Ft. Pierce, Fla. — Marywood University baseball came back from a three-run deficit to defeat Wabash College 6-5 Friday. The Pacers head home from their spring break trip with a 5-5 overall record. 

Marywood fell to undefeated Gettysburg by a 6-2 score.

Trailing by one run in the top of the ninth, Adam Ginsberg and AJ Giannetti reached with a single and a walk, respectively. Ethan Reccek tied the game on an RBI single to right field. Tanner Vicendese also hit a single that loaded the bases. 

Evan Bruder hit a sacrifice fly to deep center field that brought in Giannetti as the go-ahead run. 

Owen Reilly closed out the ninth inning. Reilly allowed just one hit in four scoreless innings of relief. 

Adam Ginsberg drove in two RBIs. Bruder was 2 for 3 with a double.

Joel Ayers and Tristan Gatchalain each went 2 for 4 with a run.

On the mound, Danny Tiedemann did not allow an earned run in five innings. He struck out four. 

Marywood trailed by as many as three runs. The Pacers added a run in the seventh and eighth on Ginsberg and Christian Michak sacrifice flies.

Marywood held an early lead against Gettysburg, receiving votes in the latest D3Baseball.com poll, before the Bullets scored five unanswered runs. 

Both Marywood runs came off the bat of Tristan Gatchalain. In the third inning, Bruder and Vicendese started the action with singles. Gatchalain hit a two RBI double to center field to take a 2-1 lead. 

Gettysburg scored on a suicide squeeze in the fourth to even the score at 2-2. The Bullets added another run on a double later in the inning. 

Marywood travels to Oneonta on Tuesday.
