Marywood Comeback Falls Short in the Ninth

Joel Ayers drives in two of Marywood's three runs

Oneonta, N.Y. — An illness-depleted Marywood University baseball team came up short 4-3 to SUNY Oneonta on Tuesday. The Pacers played their first game following a seven-game Spring Break stint.

Marywood (5-6) came back from a four-run deficit but were unable to put the tying run across the plate.

Joel Ayers had both of Marywood's RBIs. Ayers finished 2 for 5 with two RBIs. Christian Michak had two runs.

Marywood had the tying run on base in the ninth. Trailing 4-2, Michak hit a two-out double to right center. Ayers drove in the run with an RBI single to left field. The Pacers were forced into a fielder's choice to finish the game.

The Pacers plated two runs in the seventh inning. Nick Ruiz's bunt was errantly fielded by the pitcher, allowing him to move to second place. After Michak was hit by a pitch, Ayers hit a single to left field to score Ruiz. Michak came across on a wild pitch.

Tim Higgins, Adam Anderson and Colton Rinehimer each pitched scoreless outing for Marywood.

The Pacers will host New Jersey City University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Check marywoodpacers.com for potential changes to the start time.
