Pacers Offense Explodes in Last Game of Florida Games, Splits on the Day

Winter Haven, Fla. — The Marywood University softball team closed out their spring Florida trip Friday afternoon. The Pacers split on the day dropping game one to Roger Williams and having an offensive explosion game two walking away with a 14-8 victory over New England College. 

The Pacers finish their Florida trip 3-5. They are 3-7 overall in the young season. 

Game One: Marywood 4, Roger Williams 7

Renee McDonald got the Pacers on the board first with an RBI single. 

Roger Williams evened it up in the bottom of the third with an RBI single to left center. 

Marissa Hoffman put the Pacers back on top with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. 

Roger Williams went on to score two in the bottom half of the fifth to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead. 

Marywood would go on to take back the lead in the top of the sixth with RBI singles from Tori Para and Riley Marshall

The Hawks went on to score four in the bottom half of the sixth to give Roger Williams a 7-4 lead and take home the win. 

Brianna Voyer started in the circle for the Pacers, pitching five innings allowing eight hits, three runs, three earned runs, and two walks. She struck out one. 

Tori Para took the loss (1-3) for the Pacers, pitching one inning, allowing three hits, four runs, three earned, and walking two. 

Game Two: Marywood 14, New England 8

The bats came alive in the final game with the Pacers plating 14 runs. 

The Pacers starting nine each tallied a hit in the contest. 

Lianna Horner led the Pacers in RBIs with three on a pinch hit triple. 

Hoffman and McDonald collected two RBIs apiece. 

New England got on the board first with an RBI groundout. 

Marywood boasted a seven run inning in the second to give the Pacers a 7-1 lead. 

The Pilgrims responded back with six runs in the top of the third to tie the game. 

In the bottom half, the Pacers scored three runs to give themselves a 12-7 lead. 

The Pilgrims scratched out one more run in the top of the fourth. 

The Pacers scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to secure the 14-8 victory. 

Jessica Plunkett came in for relief and got the win for the Pacers, throwing one inning allowing five hits, two runs, two earned runs, and striking out two. 

Grace Lorah got the save pitching 3.2 innings allowing just one hit and walking three. Lorah struck out seven. 

Para started the game allowing four hits, six runs, and walking five. She struck out two Pilgrims. 

The Pacers will return up north for their home opener facing Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday.
