Bats Heat Up in Game Two Victory, Pacers Split on the Day

Lorah collects her first win of the season

Scranton, Pa.— The Marywood University softball team hosted Penn State Schuylkill on Tuesday in their first set of games back at home following the spring break trip to Florida. The Pacers (4-8) would go on to split the set with the Nittany Lions (3-6), dropping a tight game one 2-1 before picking up the game two win in dominating fashion.

Game 1: Marywood 1, Penn State Schuylkill 2

The first inning was quiet for both teams, as neither team could get anything going.

The Nittany Lions got on the board first, posting their only two runs of the game in the top of the second inning.

Both runs that scored were unearned.

The Pacer bats saw some life in the bottom of the third, as Tori Para doubled home Kat Davis to cut the deficit in half, 2-1.

This would be the only run for Marywood in the first game of the twin bill.

The Pacers collected seven hits in the game,  as Para, who also had the lone RBI, led the team with two.

Emma Crisswell picked up the win for the Nittany Lions, tossing the complete seven inning affair.

The loss was credited to Brianna Voyer, now 1-4, who also hurled the complete game. Voyer allowed only two unearned runs and five hits, while walking zero and striking out two.

Game 2: Marywood 10, Penn State Schuylkill 0 (5 inn.)

The second game of the day was a different story, as the Pacers stomped on the gas early.

After holding the Nittany Lions scoreless in the top half of the first, Marywood grabbed an early lead.

The first Pacer run crossed as Voyer doubled down the left field line to drive in Davis.

Lianna Horner followed that up by drawing a walk with the bases loaded, forcing home the second Marywood run to make it 2-0.

The Pacers were far from done, as the bottom of the second saw a three-run blast off the bat of Para to extend the lead to 5-0.

In the bottom of the third inning, Marywood played five more insurance runs.

The first of the runs was thanks to a Voyer single that plated Marley Sarafinko making it 6-0.

A few batters later, with the bases juiced, Riley Marshall tripled to right center. Para, Voyer, and Davis all scored on the gapper, extending the lead to 9-0.

Marissa Hoffman added another on, singling up the middle to bring the final Pacer run.

Marywood would keep the Nittany Lions scoreless for the next two innings, forcing a run-rule after 5 innings and solidifying the 10-0 victory.

Grace Lorah picked up the win, tossing the complete game (5 inn.). Lorah allowed just two hits and one walk as she stuck out three and collecting a shutout.

The Pacers tallied ten runs on eleven hits, while walking four times and only striking out twice.

Marywood was led offensively by Davis and Voyer, collecting three hits a piece.

Davis also swiped two bases, while Sarafinko nabbed one.

Para and Marshall each drove in three runs.

After splitting the double-header, the Pacers will be back in action on Friday as they head south to Cedar Crest College for another pair of non-conference games.
