Pacers Bats Signal a Win Against the Gothic Knights

Gatchalain and Vincendese go yard

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University baseball team hosted New Jersey City University Thursday afternoon for their home opener. The Pacers (6-6) bats heated up in the second inning and stayed hot to go on and slash the Gothic Knights (7-3-1), 20-6. 

Christian Michak, Tristan Gatchalain, and Adam Ginsberg led the Pacers with four hits a piece. 

The Gothic Knights scored first with an RBI double in the first inning. 

The Pacers took the lead in the bottom of the second. Thomas Day tied it up with an RBI double. The Pacers then loaded the bases leading to an Evan Bruder RBI groundout, pushing the Pacers second run across the plate. 

New Jersey City notched three runs in the top of the third, giving the Gothic Knights a 4-2 lead. 

The Pacers' bats exploded in the bottom half, plating six runs. AJ Giannetti singled through the left side. Two batters later, Tanner Vincedese hit a grand slam, the first homerun of his collegiate career, to put the Pacers up, 7-4. Tristan Gatchalain followed up with a RBI single. 

Marywood tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run double off the bat of Michak. 

The Gothic Knights crossed the plate once  in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 10-5. 

The Pacers had five more runs scored in the bottom half of the sixth. Gatchalain homered, driving in two to put the Pacers further ahead, 15-5. 

Three more Pacer insurance runs crossed in the bottom of the seventh. 

New Jersey City tacked on a sixth run in the top half of the eighth with a RBI single. 

Michak and Evan Bruder each had RBI hits in the bottom of the eighth extending the lead, 20-6. 

Danny Tiedemann got the start on the bump for the Pacers, slinging four innings allowing five earned runs on nine hits, three walks, and striking out two. 

Charlie Hamm came in for relief and helped the Pacers get out of a bases loaded jam. Hamm earned the win. In two innings, Hamm allowed one hit and struck out two. 

Austin Bausman and Ronan McManus pitched in relief as well for the Pacers combining for two walks, two strikeouts, and three hits. 


The Pacers will take on Saint Elizabeth University in a doubleheader Sunday.
