Marywood Splits Against Elmira on the Road

Voyer picks up her second win of the season

Horseheads, N.Y. — The Marywood University softball team traveled up north to take on the Elmira Soaring Eagles (2-8) Tuesday afternoon. The Pacers (5-11) salvaged a split with a come-from-behind victory in game one. 

Game One: Marywood 9, Elmira 4 

Priscilla Grill, Marissa Hoffman, and Riley Knott led the Pacers with three hits a piece. 

Elmira took an early lead, putting up four runs in the first inning. 

Marywood would go on to score two in the second with a two-run double off the bat of Grill, cutting the Soaring Eagles' lead to 4-2. 

The Pacers went on to rally in the top of the fourth. Grill scored the Pacers' third run of the game on an error. Hoffman and Knott followed with RBI singles to push the Pacers up, 5-4. 

Jessica Hanley, with bases loaded, hit a bases clearing triple, giving Marywood an 8-4 lead. 

Grill would tack on one more insurance run with an RBI double. 

The Pacers held off the Soaring Eagles to secure the 9-4 victory. 

Brianna Voyer pitched for the Pacers, collecting her second win of the season. In the complete game, she allowed seven hits, four runs, one earned run, and three walks. Voyer struck out four Elmira batters. 

Shelby Dawe got the loss for the Soaring Eagles, pitching 3.2 innings while allowing 10 hits, nine runs, and two earned runs. She walked one and struck out one. 

Game Two: Marywood 4, Elmira 5

Tori Para and Knott led the Pacers offense tallying two hits apiece. 

Marley Sarafinko started off the scoring for the Pacers with a RBI single, plating Kat Davis

Elmira went on to score three runs in the third inning, followed by one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings, taking a 5-1 lead over the Pacers. 

The Pacers chipped away in the sixth inning, but fell short in the comeback. 

Knott hit an RBI single, followed by an RBI groundout from Sarafinko. Hanley, later in the inning, had an RBI single to put the Pacers within one run of the Soaring Eagles. 

The Pacers threatened again in the seventh inning but ultimately fell to Elmira, 5-4. 

Grade Lorah (1-2) was on the mound for the Pacers, pitching six innings. She allowed eight hits, five runs, four earned runs, and walked five. Lorah struck out six batters. 

Maryann Sobel pitched for Elmira, allowing seven hits, four runs, one earned run, and zero walks. She collected five strikeouts. 

Madison Lodowski earned the save for the Scoaring Eagles. 

The Pacers will have a midweek match-up with Keystone College on Thursday.
