Pacers Roll Past Giants in Mid-Week Sweep

Voyer and Lorah tally season-highs in strikeouts

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University Pacers hosted Keystone College for an afternoon doubleheader. The Pacers (7-11) went on to have a thrilling come from behind win game one and went on to sweep the Giants (1-9). 

Game One: Marywood 7, Keystone 4

Keystone knocked in their first two runs in the top of the first inning with a home run off the bat of Julia Gorel. 

Marywood would go on to put up two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Riley Knott hit a RBI single up the middle. Riley Marshall followed that up reaching on an error with Marissa Hoffman crossing the plate, evening the score, 2-2. 

In the second inning, Keystone tacked on two more runs with a two-run single, pushing the Giants ahead, 4-2. 

The Pacers' bats were held silent until the sixth inning. 

Renee McDonald grounded out, allowing Knott to score, cutting the Keystone lead to one. 

Priscilla Grill tied it up with a RBI single to right field. 

Kat Davis and Marley Sarafinko each followed with RBI singles of their own. 

Tori Para doubled to left field to extend the Pacers lead to 7-4. 

Brianna Voyer got the win for the Pacers. Overall, Voyer (3-5) allowed eight hits, four runs, four earned runs, and one walk. She set her season-high in strikeouts with eight. 

Isabella Benitez got the loss for the Giants, pitching six innings. Benitez allowed seven runs, five earned runs, nine hits, and a walk. 

Game Two: Marywood 6, Keystone 0

The Pacer bats remained hot after the break, as they grabbed the lead in the bottom half of the first in game two. 

Para singled home Sarafinko, putting Marywood ahead 1-0 to start. 

The second run was scored on a Sarafinko sacrifice fly, plating Voyer to stretch the lead to 2-0. 

In the bottom of the fourth, Marywood grabbed three more runs. 

The first two runs were thanks to an infield single from Voyer, bringing in Lauryn Notari and Knott. 

A double-steal brought in Voyer later in the inning, making it 5-0 in favor of the Pacers. 

Notari tacked on the last Marywood run in the sixth, crossing the plate as a throw got away from the Giants. 

Voyer led the offense for the Pacers, notching a team-leading three hits in the game. She also added two RBIs. 

Alex Dusman tallied two hits in the game. 

Para and Sarafinko each collected an RBI as well. 

Grace Lorah improved to 2-2 as she was brilliant in the circle, recording the complete-game shutout. Lorah gave up only one hit and two walks, striking out 10 Giants along the way.  

Julia Gorel (0-5) was credited with the loss for Keystone. 

The Pacers will begin conference play on Saturday as they travel to Gwynedd Mercy University for a double-header against the Griffins.
