Pacers Open Up Conference Play with a Split Against Gwynedd Mercy

Voyer collects win in game one

Gwynedd Valley, Pa.— On Saturday, the Marywood University softball team heading south for a matchup with Gwynedd Mercy University. The Pacers (8-12, 1-1 AEC) split the two-game set with the Griffins, grabbing a 6-3 victory in the first game, before dropping the second 8-7. 

Game 1: Marywood 6, Gwynedd Mercy 3

Marywood wasted no time, getting on the board early with a sacrifice fly from Tori Para, brining home Kat Davis

Later in the top of the first, Riley Knott singled home Marley Sarafinko to make it 2-0 in favor of the Pacers. 

Gwynedd Mercy grabbed one back in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2–1.

In the top of the 3rd, Marywood's Jessica Hanley hit an RBI single to plate Marissa Hoffman

Priscilla Grill followed that up with an RBI single of her own, as Hanley and Renee McDonald scored to make it 5-1. 

Marissa Hoffman tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single in the top half of the sixth. Sarafinko scored on the single to extend the Pacer lead to 6-1. 

Davis, Knott, and Riley Marshall all tallied two hits a piece to lead Marywood offensively. 

Grill's two RBIs led the team as well. 

Sarafinko and Marshall swiped one base each. 

Brianna Voyer (4-5) pitched the complete game for Marywood, allowing six hits, three walks, and two earned runs. Voyer struck out four Griffins and picked up the win along the way. 

Game 2: Marywood 7, Gwynedd Mercy 6 

The second game of the double-header started exactly the same as the first, as Marywood struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. 

The first Pacer run was scored on an RBI groundout by Knott, brining in Davis. 

Hoffman followed that up with a triple to right center, scoring Sarafinko and extending the Pacer lead to 2-0. 

In the bottom of the first, Gwynedd Mercy grabbed a run back on a wild pitch. 

An error by the Griffins allowed the third Marywood run to cross the plate, as Hanley came in to make it 3-1. 

The Griffins scored one in the bottom of the second and two in the bottom of the third, grabbing a 4-3 lead over the Pacers. 

In the top of the sixth, Marywood tied it up at 4-4 as Alex Dusman was able to score on a throwing error by the Griffins. 

The Pacers were not done as Para then hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Voyer and grab the 5-4 lead. 

Later in the same inning, Knott doubled to right center and drove it Sarafinko and Davis to extend the lead to 7-4. 

In the bottom of the seventh, the Griffins mounted a comeback that started with an RBI single. 

Two errors then allowed three more runs to cross for Gwynedd Mercy, as they walked it off to steal the game-two win. 

Sarafinko led the Pacers in hits with two, and Knott led in RBIs with three on the day. 

Both Marshall and Sarafinko stole another base in the game. 

Grace Lorah split time in the circle with Para, as they combined for three strikeouts. The pair allowed seven hits, five earned runs, and five walks.  

Para (1-4) picked up the loss for the Pacers. 

Marywood is back in action on Wednesday as head down to King's College for a two-game set against the Monarchs.
