Baseball Drops Opening Series with Centenary

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University dropped its opening Atlantic East Conference baseball series against Centenary University on Saturday. The Pacers dropped the opening game of a doubleheader 9-8 before falling 13-4 in the nightcap. 

Marywood won the series opener in New Jersey on Friday. 

Game 1: Centenary 9, Marywood 8 (7 inn.)

Centenary scored five unanswered runs to hold off the Pacers in a seven-inning contest. 

Christian Michak went 3 for 3 with two runs, a stolen base and an RBI. Adam Ginsberg when 3 for 3 with a home run and two runs scored. 

Max Slusser batted 2 for 4 with two RBIs. 

Brett Kugler pitched a 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Colton Rinehimer came into the game for a scoreless outing. 

The Cyclones took advantage of fielding blemishes, scoring the eventual tying and winning run on infield errors. 

Game 2: Centenary 13, Marywood 4

Centenary scored 12 unanswered runs in the last three innings to take the series. 

Tanner Vicendese was the lone Pacer with a multi-hit effort. He went 2 for 3 with a sacrifice bunt. 

AJ Giannetti hit his first home run outside of the state of Florida. Both of his previous two career home runs happened during spring break trips. 

Centenary's Ryan Jones drove in four RBIs. Nick Payne hit 2 for 5 with three RBIs and a home run. 

Marywood will host Marymount in a three-game set next weekend.
