Marywood Falls to Saints in Doubleheader

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood (9-11, 1-4 AEC) baseball team hosted Marymount (15-11, 5-0 AEC) on Friday, as the squads squared off for a double-header. The Saints defeated the Pacers in both contests, 5-1 and 5-2 respectively.

Game One: Marywood 1, Marymount 5 (7 inn.)

The Saints got on the board early with an RBI double and an RBI single in the top of the first inning to grab the lead.

Marywood responded with a score of their own in the bottom half, as Tristan Gatchalian crossed the plate on a passed ball to cut the lead to 2-1.

Marymount scored a run in each of the next three innings, as the Pacers remained at one.

Marywood threatened late in the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, but the Pacers were unable to convert and would go on to lose 5-1.

The Pacers collected six hits in the first game, with Christian Michak and Gatchalian recording two a piece.

Danny Tiedemann was credited with the loss, tossing five innings. Tiedemann allowed only three earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one.

Tim Higgins and Caleb Fisher each hurled a scoreless inning in relief.

Game Two: Marywood 2, Marymount 5 (9 inn.)

The second game of the day was scoreless until the third inning, when the Saints put up three runs in the top half on a single, a sac fly, and a double.

Marywood cut the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the third, as Gatchalian doubled in Michak.

Marymount added got that run back quickly however, as the Saints added a fourth run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 4-1.

The Saints added one more insurance run in the eight on an RBI single, extending the lead to 5-1.

AJ Giannetti singled home Joel Ayers in the bottom of the ninth to draw one closer, but the Pacers would drop game two 5-2.

Gatchalian led Marywood offensively with two of the eight total hits, recording an RBI along the way.

Four Pacers shared the mound in game two, as Max Ryan, Brett Kugler, Owen Reilly, and Austin Bausman combined to allow eight hits and five earned runs.

Bausman tossed a scoreless ninth inning for Marywood.

The series finale against the Saints, originally scheduled for April 5th, has now been postponed.

After dropping the two game set on Friday, the Pacers look to bounce back Tuesday as they host the Monarchs of King's College.
