Marywood Sinks Scranton in Electric City Battle

AJ Giannetti drives in four RBIs

Scranton, Pa. -- Marywood University defeated crosstown University of Scranton for the first time since 2018. The Pacers beat the Royals 9-6 in non-conference baseball action. 

It was the two teams' first meeting since 2019 when the two teams played a three hour, 45 minute marathon that included 40 runs, 35 hits and 12 errors. 

In a bullpen game, Austin Bausman earned his second win of the season. He allowed an earned run and six hits in three innings.

Danny Tiedemann picked up his first save. Tiedemann came into the game with the bases loaded in the eighth inning and allowed just one hit in 1 2/3 innings. 

Evan Bruder went 3 for 3 with three runs, a double and a stolen base. Tanner Vicendese reached five times with three hits. 

AJ Giannetti batted 2 for 3 with four RBIs. Christian Michak hit a home run. 

Marywood (12-14) kept the game tied at 1-1 in the first inning after the Royals outhit them 3-0. The Pacers got away with just a run when they pulled off a 6-3-6 to get a lead runner out at second base. In the bottom half, the Royals hit two Pacers and walked a pair to bring in a run. 

The Pacers went ahead with a four-run third inning. Michak led off with a walk, followed by a Bruder bunt single. With the bases loaded, Joel Ayers singled through the right side to take the lead. Giannetti hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly that scored two runs when the ball was caught at the fence. Vicendese hit a single to right field that brought in the next run. 

Marywood extended its lead to 8-1 in the fourth inning. Michak led off with a solo home run to left field. Bruder and Tristian Gatchalian hit back-to-back doubles. Giannetti singled in the Pacers' eighth run of the game. 

Scranton benefited from two Marywood errors in the eighth inning to score four runs. Entering the game with the bases loaded and one out, Tiedemann forced the Royals into two ground outs. 

Jonathan Schmidt doubled to right center to add a run in the bottom of the eighth. 

Marywood will travel to Lycoming College on Tuesday. The Pacers will host Eastern University in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
