Meighan Strikes In Final Minute to Defeat Broncos

Marywood comes back from 3-1 deficit at halftime

Scranton, Pa. — Freshman Ben Meighan scored a game-winning goal with 18 seconds remaining to lift Marywood University men's lacrosse to a 5-4 victory over SUNY Delhi on Wednesday. The Pacers even their record to 6-6 overall. 

Marywood came back from a 3-1 deficit at halftime. 

In the final minute, John Scibello picked up a ground ball on an errant pass by Liam Dodd. Dillon Kane saved possession with 41 seconds remaining. 

From the right side, Kane delivered a cross-field pass to Meighan 18-yards away from goal. Meighan jumped to his right side and rifled an overhead shot that went into goal.

Luke Ament won the ensuing faceoff and ground ball, scurrying around the midfield to advance the Pacers' possession safely. 

Meighan finished with two goals. John Scibello had five ground balls. 

Nick Baker, Ben Peters and Dalton Gerver each had three ground balls. 

In net, Colin Trainor captured the win with 13 saves. His counterpart Jayden Messina stopped eight shots. 

Marywood struggled in the first half. Meighan scored the first goal at 11:38, and the Broncos closed out the first half with three straight goals. 

The Pacers' 35-minute scoring drought ended when Logan Sanders rammed through several Broncos defense and unleashed a shot into the corner of goal. Less than two minutes later, Shaun Howey tied the game at 3-3 off a Ricky Strobel assist. 

Delhi (6-4) got back with Chris-to-Jacob Lazazzaro brotherly connection with 10:53 left in the fourth. Marywood was able to tie the game with 7:10 left when Peters scored on a Scibello feed. 

Marywood edged the Broncos 36-34 in shots, and Delhi had a 17-13 advantage on target. Delhi was 19 for 22 on clears, and Marywood went 19 for 28. The Broncos won 7 of 12 faceoffs. 

The Pacers open their Atlantic East Conference schedule Saturday at Marymount University.
