Para Breaks Single-Season Doubles Record, Marywood Sweeps SUNY-Delhi

Pacers prepare for the Atlantic East Conference tournament

Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University softball team squared off with SUNY-Delhi on Tuesday in their last games of the regular season. The Pacers (19-17) walked away with 4-2 and 9-7 victories.

The Pacers collected 21 hits on the day, as Tori Para took sole possession of Marywood's single-season doubles record (22) with a two-bagger in game one. 

Game One: Marywood 4, SUNY-Delhi 2

Both teams got on the board early, scoring one apiece in the first inning. 

The Marywood run was scored on an RBI single off the bat of Riley Knott

Both teams scored again in the third, with a sacrifice fly from Tori Para allowing the Pacers to tie it up at 2-2. 

Marywood added two insurance runs in the later innings, grabbing one on a throwing error in the bottom of the fourth and another thanks to an RBI single from Brianna Voyer

The Pacers would go on to claim a 4-2 victory in the first game of the double-header. 

Voyer (10-8) also picked up the win for Marywood, spinning a complete game while only allowing two runs and collecting five strikeouts along the way.  

Game Two: Marywood 9, SUNY-Delhi 7

The Pacers were able to grab an early lead in game two, as Renee McDonald smacked a bases-clearing double, driving in three. 

Marissa Hoffman, Priscilla Grill, and Para all scored. 

The Broncos bounced right back with three runs of their own in the second, before adding another in the top of the third to take  a 4-3 lead. 

Jessica Hanley evened it up again in the bottom of the third with a sacrifice fly to plate Knott. 

SUNY-Delhi tallied two more runs in the top halves of the fourth and fifth innings respectively. 

In the bottom of the fifth, the Pacers tied it up and eventually even regained the lead. 

An RBI groundout from Hanley was followed by an RBI single off the bat of Marley Sarafinko to tie it at 6-6. 

Sarafinko then scored on an error to give Marywood their first lead of the game, 7-6. 

McDonald added two more insurance runs for the Pacers, as a 2 RBI double in the bottom half of the sixth extended the lead. 

The Broncos were able to grab one back in the seventh but Marywood held on for a 9-7 victory. 

 McDonald led the Pacers offensively, going 4-4 with five RBIs in total. 

Grace Lorah was credited with the win for Marywood, hurling five innings in the circle. Lorah conceded six hits and five runs while walking six and striking out three.  

Jessica Plunkett finished up the final two innings, allowing five hits and two runs. Plunkett walked three and had one strike out. 

As the regular season has come to an end for the Pacers, all eyes are on the AEC playoffs. Marywood (2-seed) will begin tournament play on Saturday with a matchup against Immaculata (3-seed).
