Three Pacers Named to All-Atlantic East Second Team

Joel Ayers repeats on All-Atlantic East team

Lancaster, Pa. — Three Marywood University student-athletes were named to the Atlantic East Conference Second Team in baseball, officials announced Wednesday. Joel Ayers, Austin Bausman and AJ Giannetti were selected all-conference. 

Ayers was named Second Team All-Atlantic East for the second consecutive season. The sophomore right fielder batted .326 on the season with six doubles, three triples and 21 RBIs. Ayers ranked third on the team in runs (30), RBIs, and total bases (55). He had five assists and a .973 fielding percentage. 

Giannetti makes his first All-Atlantic East selection after four weekly honor rolls. The senior catcher batted .330 with a .943 OPS. He scored 24 runs and 28 RBIs with nine doubles and three home runs. Giannetti caught 20 out of 37 runners stealing with a .985 fielding percentage. During conference play, Giannetti batted .447 with a 1.214 OPS. He capped his Marywood career by reaching base in 25 of his last 26 games.

Bausman registered a 3.46 ERA with a 3-2 record. He struck out 21 batters in 26 innings pitched. A relief pitcher that transitioned into a starter, he had a 3.63 ERA with a 1.58 WHIP and 8.98 K/9 during Atlantic East play, keeping opponents to a .261 batting average. 

It is the most all-conference awards received by Marywood since the 2015 season. 

AEC Champion Marymount garnered three awards, as David Muirhead was selected as the Co-Pitcher of the Year, with Jack McCarthy netting Rookie of the Year. Nick Trapanese was selected as the Elite 20 Award winner, given to the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the championship site. 

Neumann's Thomas Carroll was named as the Player of the Year, while Alex LePage from Immaculata shared the Co-Player of the Year with Muirhead. 

Zach Gehman from Centenary was selected as the Relief Pitcher of the Year. 

Finally, the staff of Neumann University was selected as Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers. 

Carroll, a first-team selection as an outfielder, batted .376 in 40 games this season. Head 56 hits, with 13 doubles, five triples and seven home runs. He scored and drove in 42 runs. 

LePage, a first-team selection as a starting pitcher, went 7-5 in 12 games this season. He threw four complete games with one shutout. Posting a 3.30 ERA, he struck out 75 batters while walking 22 and allowed just 49 earned runs. 

Muirhead, a first-team selection as a starting pitcher, went 5-3 in 12 appearances this season. He struck out 55 and walked 24 in 66.1 innings of work. He posted a 3.53 ERA while throwing three complete games. 

McCarthy, a first-team selection at catcher, batted a team-best .411 with 53 hits and 43 RBI. In 36 games, he had 13 extra-base hits while driving in 43 runs. 

Gehman, a first-team selection at relief pitcher, appeared in 16 games with an ERA of 4.40. HE had a save while allowing just 15 earned runs in 30.2 innings of work. 

Trapanese posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in cybersecurity. 

Neumann posted a 27-13 record this season, with an 11-4 mark in the AEC. The Knights advanced to the AEC title game before falling to Marymount.
