Volleyball Sweeps Penn State Abington, Berks

Marywood advances to 11-1 overall on the season

Reading, Pa.— Marywood University swept Penn State Berks and Penn State Abington in three sets on Saturday. The Pacers improve to 11-1 overall on the season. 

Match 1: Marywood 3, Penn State Abington 0

Marywood avenged last season's three-set loss with a win by scores of 25-21, 25-14, 25-23. 

Genevieve Pollock broke the Marywood single-match record for a three-set match with 18 kills. Pollock had 18 kills. 

Taylor Hallam notched 12 points with nine kills, and Gracee Work also had a dozen points on eight kills and four aces.

Defensively, Catie Woolf registered 16 digs. Tess Connolly had 10 digs. 

Ayla Bransford was one assist short of the single-match record with 41 sets. 

Taylor Howard made three solo blocks. 

Marywood shot .263 for the match to the Lions' .137. 

Abington's Zayna Jamaladdin had 11 kills. 

Match 2: Marywood 3, Penn State Berks 0

The Pacers beat the Lions by scores of 25-6, 25-15, 25-11. Marywood beats Berks for the first time since 2017, ending a three-match losing streak. 

Pollock tallied 10 kills with a .526 attack percentage. 

Carolina Samaniego led the Pacers with a team-high 15 points. Samaniego had eight aces and seven kills with a.400 hitting percentage. 

Woolf had 13 digs, and Bransford had four aces. 

Libby Zick contributed 18 assists.

The Pacers had a .291 hitting percentage. Marywood totaled 19 aces. 

Marywood hosts Oneonta on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
