Marywood Earns First Win over King's Since 2010

Volleyball remains undefeated through three matches

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University earned its first volleyball win over King's College since 2010 on Wednesday. The Pacers defeated the Monarchs 3-1 at the Insalaco Arena. 

King's previously won the past seven meetings between the two teams. 

Marywood won by scores of 27-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18. 

Ayla Bransford posted the second-most assists (50) in a four-set match. She also contributed a double-double with 14 digs. 

Both Taylor Hallam and Genevieve Pollock totaled 17 kills. Hallam led the Pacers with 23.5 points with three aces and four total blocks. Pollock added nine digs. 

Hallam reached the 100 Ace Mark for her career. She had three aces in the match. 

Carolina Samaniego contributed 16 kills and 12 digs. 

Defensively, Catie Woolf and Andrea Fraga each posted 21 digs. Ryleigh Hart matched Hallam for a team-best four total blocks. 

Marywood had a .158 hitting percentage for the match, compared to King's .110 mark. Both teams had seven total blocks. The Pacers led the Monarchs 9-4 in aces. 

In the first set, King's reached the first set point on Mia Campanile's kill. Pollock had a kill to even the score at 24 apiece. Bransford scored an ace to take a 25-24 advantage. Following a service error that evened the score, Marywood took the first set on two Monarch attack errors. 

Trailing 23-20, the Monarchs (2-1) scored five straight points off Ariela Towsey scores to even the match. 

Marywood quickly took care of the Monarchs in the third set, using a five-point run on Hallam serves to take a 2- lead in the match. 

King's led 13-12 in the fourth set before Marywood tallied seven straight points off Woolf serves. Hart scored the game-tying and go-ahead points on a kill and a block. Hallam's kill capped the run and gave Marywood a 19-13 advantage. 

Pollock tabbed a kill to close match point. 

Marywood is looking to stay undefeated on Saturday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The Pacers take on Alfred State College at 1 p.m., followed by host Lycoming College at 3 p.m. Please note that these game starts are recent changes from the original schedule.
