Men's Basketball Upsets Neumann, 78-68

Marywood jumps out to an 18-point lead in first half

Dunmore, Pa. — Marywood University upset Neumann University 78-68 Wednesday in the Atlantic East Conference men's basketball action. The Pacers moved into a three-way tie for third place with a 10-6 overall and 3-2 conference.

The Pacers were led by Collin Himmelberg's 23 points. Joe Macciocco made four 3-pointers for 20 points. Michel Loftin added 15 points.

Himmelberg, Macciocco and Loftin each made seven field goals.

Shilo Bivins brought in nine rebounds, and Ty Cheney added six assists.

Both teams were 29 for 61 percent for the field for 47.5 percent.

Marywood went on an 11-2 run late in the first half to extend its lead to 18 points. Andrew Quinn and Himmelberg hit a 3-pointer to go ahead 43-25 with 2:20 remaining.

Neumman used a 10-point run to make it a two possession game. After Jarell Keel stole the ball and passed on a fast break to Jayson Love, the Knights trimmed Marywood's lead to 62-56 with 7:14 remaining.

Keel dunked a ball to make it a 70-66 game with 2:34 left. After Cheney had a block, Marywood scored a crucial basket at the other end. Himmelberg's 3-pointer was blocked by Keel. Himmelberg pulled the ball out of a scrum and heaved a jump shot at the free-throw line as the shot clock expired.

Himmelberg retrieved a rebound. Marywood closed out the game with free throws from Macciocco and Himmelberg.

Neumann edged the Pacers 35-34 in rebounds.

Marywood's Atlantic East matchup against Marymount University was rescheduled to Friday at 6 p.m.
