Hackettstown, N.J. — Marywood University dropped its opening Atlantic East Conference men's basketball matchup in an 81-71 loss to Centenary University on Wednesday. The Pacers fall to 7-5 overall on the season.
Shilo Bivins was a perfect 6 for 6 from the field to tie with a team-high 14 points. Bivins produced nine rebounds.
Both
Collin Himmelberg and
Andrew Quinn matched him with 14 points.
Both teams were lights-out in the first half with the Cyclones clinging to a 36-34 lead. Centenary shot 56 percent from the field in the first half, and Marywood made 52.17 percent of its attempts.
Marywood committed 24 turnovers. The Cycloned had a 28-17 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Pacers briefly held a 37-36 lead in the second minute of the second half.
Michel Loftin hit a 3-pointer off a Bivins assist.
Midway through the second half, Centenary went on an 11-2 run. Devin Strickland's jump shot gave the Cyclones a 61-48 lead.
Kenneth Rankin finished with 22 points for the Cyclones. Devin Strickland had 20 points. Justin Carbone (15) and Darnelle Forrest (10) also reached double figures.
Marywood looks to get into the win column for the first time in conference play on Saturday in the Insalaco Arena. The Pacers take on Pratt Institute at 3 p.m.
