Runs Aplenty in Sunshine State Split

Marywood scores 26 runs in two games

Ft. Pierce, Fla. —Marywood University baseball scored 26 games in a two-game split on Thursday. The Pacers defeated Washington (Md.) 17-15 and fell to Northwestern (Minn.) 12-9 on their Spring Break trip. 

Game 1: Marywood 17, Washington 15

The Pacers never relinquished an early six-run lead in a bonkers game that featured 32 runs and 28 hits. 

Marywood scored six in the top of the first inning. The Pacers loaded the bases with an Evan Bruder single and two walks issued to Adam Ginsberg and Joel Ayers. Marywood put its first crooked number on the board on an error. Mike Biskup had a bases-loaded walk, and Tanner Vicendese hit a grounder for a run scored. Cam Bott drove out the starting pitcher with a two-run single to go ahead 5-0. Marywood batted around with Bruder hitting a single in his second at-bat of the frame. 

Danny Tiedemann earned his second win in five innings with five strikeouts. 

The Shoremen came back with five total runs in the fourth and fifth innings. 

Marywood quickly responded with AJ Kuzior's two-run homer to take a 8-5 lead in the sixth. The Pacers used an eight-run seventh inning to take a 10-run lead.

Washington showed little quit with four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. 

After Marywood gave up a Brett Connolly home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth, Aidan Dolan came in to shut down three batters for his first save. 

Bruder became just the ninth batter in Marywood history to finish with five base hits in a single game. He scored two runs and drove in four RBIs. 

Both Biskup and Ginsberg had three runs scored. Biskup went 2 for 4 with three RBIs.

Game 2: Northwestern (St. Paul) 12, Marywood 9

The Eagles used a five-run eighth inning in a comeback win over the Pacers. 

Joel Ayers went 3 for 5 with three RBIS. Adam Ginsberg raised his batting averaged with three base hits — two of which were doubles. 

Evan Bruder batted 2 for 5 with three runs. Watson Church drove in two RBIs on two hits. 

Marywood finished with 16 hits. 

The Pacers had a solid start from Isaac Galarza. He struck out four, allowed two earned runs in five innings. 

In the bullpen, both Tim Higgins and Caleb Fisher yielded just a hit in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.  

Northwestern's Jack Burns struck out three to earn the win in a three-inning relief outing. 

Marywood (5-5) closes its Spring Break trip against Franciscan University of Steubenville. The game has been rescheduled to a 10 a.m. start.
