Nine-Run Sixth Inning Wakes Up Pacers in Doubleheader Split

Marywood breaks 12-inning scoreless drought with big inning

Scranton, Pa. —Marywood University baseball used a nine-run sixth inning to end a 12-inning scoreless drought. The Pacers salvaged a split with a 9-4 victory in the nightcap after falling 6-0 in the opening game against Regent University. 

Game 2: Marywood 9, Regent 4

The Pacers came back from a four-run deficit to score nine sixth inning runs. Ten of the first 11 batters reached safely to flip the script against the Royals. 

Trailing 4-0, Cam Bott led off with a triple to the right field gap. Both Evan Bruder and Adam Ginsberg loaded the bases with singles. Joel Ayers struck first with a single down the left field line, followed by an AJ Kuzior single to left that drove in another run. 

Marywood even the score on a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Mike Biskup and an Ethan Reccek sacrifice fly. Nick Ruiz found a hole through the left side for an RBI single to take a 5-4 lead. After Jalen Soberal doubled the lead with an RBI single, Bott had his second extra-base hit of the sixth inning. Bruder capped the Pacers' inning with a two-RBI single for an
9-4 lead.

Isaac Galarza received the win in six innings of work. Galarza struck out five and allowed four earned runs. Aidan Dolan pitched a perfect seventh inning. 

Bruder was 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Ayers reached three times. 

Ginsberg, Bott, and Soberal each had a pair of base hits. 

Game 2: Regent 6, Marywood 0

Marywood was blanked by a complete game performance by Royals pitcher Will Maloney. He allowd just five hits for a shutout. 

Austin Bausman lost his first game of the season. He went 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. Rowan Galiotto and Tim Higgins each had scoreless relief outings. 

Watson Church reached twice for Marywood. Bott had a double. 

Regent opened wtih an early run. Ben Tweedy hit a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Jordan Hunt in the first inning. 

The Royals added two more tuns in the third. 

The Pacers and Royals play a rubber match on Sunday at noon.
