Pacers Stalled by Saints in Atlantic East Opener

Mike Biskup hits a home run

Tysons Corner, Va. — Marywood University lost its Atlantic East Conference baseball opener in a 5-1 decision to Marymount University on Friday. The Pacers led by one before the Saints overtook them in the middle innings. 

Mike Biskup hit a home run for the Pacers' only run of the contest. Biskup went 2 for 3. 

The Saints' Quincy Via batted 2 for 5 with three runs, two doubles and two stolen bases. Evan Schick drove in a pair of runs. 

Marymount's Ben Smallwood threw a complete game, allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts. 

Austin Bausman took the loss in a five-inning performance. He struck out four, allowing one earned run and three hits. 

Aidan Dolan tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Brett Kugler threw a perfect inning. 

The Pacers took the lead in the second inning. Biskup homered to left field on a full count. 

Marymount evened the score in the bottom of the third. After Via doubled, Tyler Woodring grounded in an RBI. 

The Saints had their first lead in the bottom of the fifth. Via reached via an error and stole second base. Seth Sadler drove in a run on a bases-loaded walk for a 2-1 advantage. 

Marywood's best chance came in the sixth inning. Evan Bruder and Adam Ginsberg hit back-to-back one-out singles to left field. Smallwood retired the next two batters to end the threat. 

Marywood and Marymount will resume the series on Saturday in Tysons Corner, Va.
