Softball Drops Walk-Off Thriller, Rebounds for Game Two Win

Immaculata, Pa.- The Marywood University softball team endured both heartbreak and resilience in its Atlantic East Conference opener against Immaculata University on Saturday, falling 13-12 in a nine-inning walk-off thriller in game one before regrouping to claim a 12-7 victory and salvage a split.

Game One: Marywood 12, Immaculata 13 (9 inn.)
The Pacers struck first in the opening inning when Tori Para drove in Kat Davis with a groundout, but Immaculata responded quickly and took a 4-1 lead after two innings.

Marywood's offense erupted in the third. Renee McDonald started the rally with an RBI single before Lauryn Notari delivered a two-run double to tie the game. Kat Davis followed with an RBI single as the Pacers pushed across four runs to take a 5-4 lead.

The momentum carried into the fourth inning. Marissa Hoffman ripped a two-run double and Riley Marshall launched a two-run home run to extend the advantage to 9-5.

Immaculata chipped away and eventually erased the deficit in the sixth inning, scoring four runs to tie the game at 9-9 before taking a 10-9 lead later in the frame.

Marywood answered once again in the seventh. After a pair of baserunners reached, Para delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a three-run home run to center field to put the Pacers back in front.

The lead was short-lived. Immaculata scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 12-12 and force extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth and a quiet top of the ninth for Marywood, Immaculata loaded the bases with one out in the bottom half. Natalia Donofrio delivered the decisive blow with a walk-off RBI single, sealing the 13-12 win.

Para led the Pacers offensively with four RBIs, including her go-ahead home run in the seventh. Hoffman added two RBIs, while Notari and Marshall each drove in two. Amber Little had a standout day at the plate, going 4-for-5.

In the circle, Brianna Voyer worked the first 5.2 innings before Emily Dubisz took the loss in relief.

The Pacers responded in the fourth, taking advantage of a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Lianna Horner to regain a 3-2 advantage. They added to that lead in the fifth when Marshall launched a two-run home run to left field.

Immaculata refused to go away, cutting the deficit to one on a two-run homer by Jamie Green in the fifth. After Marywood added three runs in the sixth, highlighted by RBI singles from Marley Sarafinko and Para, the hosts again chipped away, scoring twice in the bottom of the inning to make it 8-6.
