Scranton, Pa. — The Marywood University men's lacrosse team battled early but could not keep pace with McDaniel College in a 12-3 nonconference loss on Tuesday evening at Pacer Turf Field.
Luke Ament went a perfect 17-for-17 at the faceoff X, leading the Pacers with 11 ground balls.
Marywood (2-4) received goals from Shaun Howey, Ben Meighan and Osten Grigas, while Sean Bonhag added an assist.
The Pacers generated consistent offensive pressure throughout the contest, finishing with 31 shots and holding advantages in ground balls (39-30) and faceoffs (17-0).
McDaniel opened the scoring with three goals in the first period before Marywood got on the board with 3:59 remaining. Howey converted a man-up opportunity off a pass from Bonhag to trim the deficit to 3-1 heading into the second quarter.
The Green Terror pushed their lead to 4-1 early in the second period, but Meighan answered with an unassisted tally at the 3:28 mark to pull Marywood within two goals at halftime.
The game shifted in the third quarter as McDaniel scored six times in the frame to extend the lead to 10-2.
Grigas scored early in the fourth quarter for the Pacers, finishing an unassisted chance with 13:32 remaining to make it 10-3. McDaniel added two more goals down the stretch to close the scoring.
Marywood goalkeeper Colin Trainor made 11 saves while playing the full 60 minutes in net.
Cutter Stanton paced McDaniel with three goals.
Marywood will return to action on Saturday at Juniata College.
