Softball Rolls Past Keystone

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University softball team picked up two shutout run-rule wins as they defeated Keystone College 10-0 and 8-0, respectively on Monday afternoon with both games ending in five innings.

Game One: Keystone 0, Marywood 10 (5 inn.)
After two scoreless innings to start, Marywood found its spark in the bottom of the third when Kat Davis delivered an inside-the-park home run to give the Pacers a 1-0 lead.

That early advantage quickly turned into a rout one inning later.

Marywood sent 13 batters to the plate in the fourth and erupted for nine runs on nine hits. Lauryn Notari jumpstarted the surge with a two-run double down the left field line, scoring Riley Marshall and Tori Para. Moments later, Marissa Hoffman added an RBI single, and Alex Dusman followed with a run-scoring hit that turned into extra bases after an outfield error.

The Pacers kept applying pressure as Davis drove in another run with a single, Marley Sarafinko lifted a sacrifice fly, and Marshall capped the inning with a two-run double to push the lead to 10-0.

Marshall led the offensive charge, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Davis also starred at the top of the lineup, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs, highlighted by her inside-the-park homer. Notari added two RBIs, while Hoffman and Dusman each contributed run-scoring hits in the decisive inning.

In the circle, Brianna Voyer was in complete control. The right-hander tossed a five-inning shutout, allowing six hits while working around four walks.

Game Two: Keystone, Marywood 8 (5 inn.)
After a quiet opening inning on both sides, Marywood's offense erupted in the bottom of the second. The rally began with traffic on the bases before Notari delivered a two-run double down the left field line, scoring Marshall and Renee McDonald to get the Pacers on the board.

Davis followed with a triple to right, driving in two more runs, and  Para capped the inning with a two-run single up the middle as Marywood surged ahead 6-0.

That offensive cushion was more than enough for Emily Dubisz, who was sharp in the circle from the start. The right-hander scattered three hits over five scoreless innings, walking two and striking out one.
Marywood added to its lead in the fifth, taking advantage of wild pitches and timely situational hitting. Dusman came around to score on a wild pitch, and later in the inning Allyson Hourigan lined a single to right to plate another run and extend the advantage to 8-0.

The Pacers finished with six hits but made them count, producing seven RBIs and drawing five walks. Davis and Para each drove in two runs, while Notari also had a two-RBI performance to lead the balanced attack.

With the doubleheader sweep, Marywood improved to 14-10 on the season. The Pacers return to action Wednesday with a road contest against Misericordia University.
