Pacers Split Doubleheader with Misericordia

Dallas, Pa.- The Marywood University softball team snagged a split against future MAC-Freedom opponent Misericordia University Wednesday afternoon.

The Pacers took down the Cougars 8-1 in the first game but suffered an 11-2 setback in game two.

Game One: Marywood 8, Misericordia 1
The Pacers sent nine batters to the plate in the first. Kat Davis drew a leadoff walk, and Marley Sarafinko followed with a bunt single to spark the rally. After Tori Para reached to load the bases, Riley Marshall worked another walk to bring home the game's first run. Renee McDonald then lined an RBI single to center, and Marissa Hoffman delivered the big blow with a two-run single that pushed the lead to 4–0.

Misericordia answered in the bottom half when Kaliana Auchey singled home Gianna Russo.

Marywood continued to add on in measured bursts. Hoffman picked up her third RBI with a sacrifice fly in the third. In the fourth, Para drove in Davis with a single to extend the lead.

Para struck again in the sixth, ripping an RBI double to left-center, and later came around to score on a Misericordia error to cap the scoring at 8–1.

Para led the offense with two hits, including the double, and three RBIs, while McDonald went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Hoffman also drove in three runs, and Sarafinko scored twice as part of a balanced nine-hit attack.

Brianna Voyer earned the win as the right-hander scattered eight hits over seven innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out two and walking none in a 126-pitch complete game.

Game Two: Marywood 2, Misericordia 11 (5 inn.)
The Cougars wasted no time taking control, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning to immediately put Marywood on its heels.

Marywood broke through in the second game in the top of the second inning, when Lauryn Notari delivered an RBI single to bring home the Pacers' first run. Misericordia answered quickly, plating two runs on RBI base hits to extend its lead.

The Pacers added their final run of the day in the third inning when Hoffman reached on an error that allowed Para to score. Misericordia then put the game out of reach with a four-run third inning, fueled by three RBI base knocks and a sacrifice fly.

Seven different Pacers recorded a hit in the contest. In the circle, Emily Dubisz took the loss after pitching two innings and allowing seven earned runs on eight hits while striking out one. Autumn Calvello provided two innings of relief, striking out one batter as well.

Marywood (15–11) returns to action Saturday at Neumann University.
