Marywood Blanks Macs for Record 23rd Victory

Noah Trager throws six scoreless innings in a no-decision

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University set a single-season school record with its 23rd baseball victory. The Pacers shut out then-first place Immaculata University 2-0 Thursday in Atlantic East Conference action.

Marywood (23-12) broke a record set three times in 2012, 2022 and 2024.

Scoreless in the seventh inning, the Pacers scored their winning run on a fielding error. Nick Ruiz hit a one-out single to center field. He scored from first base on a Joel Ayers bouncer that ricocheted off the shortstop's mitt. Ruiz got underneath the tag at home for the go-ahead run.

An inning later, Marywood added to its lead. Evan Bruder led off with a walk. Following a pitching change, Mike Biskup hit a two-out single through the left side to bring in Bruder safely.

Isaac Galarza came in to shut out the Mighty Macs in a perfect ninth inning. Galarza forced catcher Robert Woodward to foul out to first base to end the game. It was Galarza's second save of the season.

Noah Trager took the mound with a quality start. He allowed just four hits and a walk in six scoreless innings. Trager struck out three.

Brett Kugler notched his second win of the season, allowing two base hits. Aidan Dolan came in relief to strike out one in a perfect inning.

Immaculata starter Alex LePage took the loss. He allowed one earned run in seven innings, allowing four hits and four walks. LePage struck out five.

Joel Ayers reached twice with two walks. Ruiz and Bruder both scored once and reached twice.

The Pacers set a school record with their fifth shutout. The previous record was four shutouts in both 2012 and 2015.

Marywood earned its first win over Immaculata at Pacer Park since 2018. Immaculata previously won the past 10 meetings in the Electric City.

With the win, the Pacers (23-12, 8-5) move into second place in the Atlantic East baseball standings.

Marywood took advantage of baserunning blunders by the Mighty Macs. In the fifth inning, the Mighty Macs had runners on first and second with zero outs. Trager picked off Luke Hardnock at second place. In the seventh, Immaculata had the go-ahead runner at second base with one out. Catcher Evan Bruder threw out Goulburn trying to steal third to clear the bases.

The Pacers take on the Mighty Macs on Friday in a doubleheader in East Whiteland Township. First pitch is slated for noon.
