Softball Concludes Regular Season with Loss to Scranton

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University softball team erased an early deficit with a big fourth inning, but a late surge by the University of Scranton softball team proved too much to overcome in a 10–5 loss on Wednesday afternoon.

Scranton struck first in the opening inning and added another run in the third to take a 2–0 lead before Marywood began to chip away.

The Pacers got on the board in the bottom of the third when Marissa Hoffman drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Kat Davis, cutting the deficit in half.

After the Royals extended its lead to 4–1 in the fourth, Marywood responded with its strongest stretch of the game. Riley Marshall's leadoff double sparked the rally, and the Pacers capitalized with timely hitting. A sacrifice fly by Marley Sarafinko and an RBI single from Tori Para brought Marywood within one. Moments later, Renee McDonald delivered the biggest swing of the inning, lining a two-run single to right field to give the Pacers a 5–4 advantage.

That lead held until the sixth, when momentum shifted decisively. Scranton's Meghan McDonnell opened the inning with a game-tying home run, igniting a five-run outburst. The Royals used a combination of walks, timely hits, and aggressive baserunning to build a 9–5 cushion before adding an insurance run in the seventh.

Marywood finished with nine hits, led by McDonald's three-hit, two-RBI performance. Davis added two hits and scored twice, while Para and Sarafinko each drove in a run.

In the circle, Brianna Voyer started and worked four innings, allowing four runs (three earned). Emily Dubisz took the loss after being charged with four runs in relief, while Megan Linkhorst and Autumn Calvello combined to finish the game.

The Pacers close out the regular season with a 19–14 record and now turn their attention to the postseason.

Marywood has secured the No. 3 seed in the Atlantic East Conference Tournament and will open play against No. 2 seed Neumann University on Saturday, May 2 at 1 p.m. in Arlington, Virginia.
