Little’s Walk-Off Single Leads to Split with King’s

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University softball team earned a nonconference split Wednesday afternoon as they defeated King's College 5-4 in walk-off fashion in the first game, followed by a 6-3 defeat in game two.

Game One: King's 4, Marywood 5
Trailing 4–0 after three innings, Marywood steadily chipped away before pushing across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

King's struck early, plating three runs in the second inning on RBI plays from Makenzie Johnson, Brianna Kesslick, and Kara Krouse. The Monarchs added another in the third on a fielder's choice RBI from Colleen Shuler to build a four-run cushion.

Marywood responded in the bottom half of the third when Tori Para delivered a key two-run double to right center, scoring Kat Davis and Alex Dusman.

The Pacers continued to apply pressure late. In the sixth inning, Riley Marshall scored on a sacrifice bunt by Marissa Hoffman. Moments later, Marywood evened the score when Taegan Clark crossed the plate on a throwing error following a ground ball by Lauryn Notari.

With the game tied entering the seventh, Marywood quickly set the table. Kat Davis led off with a single and stole second, and Marley Sarafinko followed with a bunt single before swiping second herself. After Para drew a walk to load the bases, Amber Little delivered the game-winning hit, a single to left field that scored Davis and completed the comeback.

Davis led the Pacers offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Para added two RBIs, while Little and Hoffman each drove in a run.

In the circle, Brianna Voyer went the distance for Marywood, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out two to earn the win.

Game Two: King's 6, Marywood 3
The Monarchs wasted little time getting on the board, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. An RBI walk by Elise Larson and a sacrifice fly from Molly Veach gave King's a 2-0 advantage before Marywood could record its third out.

King's added to its lead in the fourth inning when Kara Krouse delivered an RBI single. Marywood answered in the bottom half of the inning, as Mia Antolino drove in Ariana Shellman with a single to right-center.

The game turned in the fifth inning, when King's capitalized on a Marywood error and a wild pitch to plate three runs. Veach and Madison Badali each recorded RBI hits in the frame, extending the Monarchs' lead.

Marywood showed life in the sixth inning. Shellman led off with a single before Marshall launched a two-run home run to left-center field. The Pacers continued to threaten later in the inning, putting runners on second and third, but King's pitcher Madisyn vonFrisch worked out of the jam to preserve the lead.

Shellman paced Marywood offensively, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Marshall finished with two RBIs on her home run, while Antolino added an RBI. Notari contributed two hits, and the Pacers totaled 10 hits in the second game.

Emily Dubisz took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits in over four innings of work. Megan Linkhorst provided three innings of scoreless relief.

Marywood continues their homestand on Saturday when they take on Marymount University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
