Five-Run Eighth Not Enough as Marywood Falls to Neumann

Aston, Pa.- The Marywood University baseball team saw its late rally fall short Friday afternoon, dropping an 8–5 decision to Neumann University in an Atlantic East Conference matchup at Bruder Field.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first on an unearned run following a Marywood error, then added another in the second on an RBI single from Donovan Brooks.

A two-run fifth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Yoan Feliz and Blake Decker, extended the lead to 4-0, and Neumann kept pressing with two more runs in the sixth and another in the seventh to make it 7-0.

Marywood finally broke through in the eighth inning in dramatic fashion. After loading the bases with no outs, the Pacers scored five times despite recording just one hit in the frame. Ethan Reccek and Mike Biskup each drew RBI walks, Tanner Vicendese was hit by a pitch to force in another run, and Cam Bott followed with an RBI fielder's choice. Joel Ayers then delivered the lone hit of the inning, an RBI single that trimmed the deficit to 7-5 and put the tying run on base.

The momentum, however, was short-lived. Neumann responded in the bottom half of the inning when a pair of wild pitches allowed a run to score, restoring a three-run cushion at 8-5.

Neumann pitcher Rey Carrier closed the door in the ninth, retiring the Pacers in order to secure his fifth save of the season.

Noah Trager took the loss for Marywood, allowing four runs (three earned) over five innings. The Pacers drew seven walks but were limited to six hits.

The Pacers host Neumann in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 12 p.m.
