It's Coming Home! Women's Track and Field Brings Atlantic East Trophy Back to Scranton

Pacers win for the first time since 2022

East Whiteland Twp., Pa. — Marywood University won the Atlantic East Conference Women's Track and Field Championship for the first time since 2022 this weekend. The Pacers capture their fourth Atlantic East title. 

Marywood won by 20 points over three-time reigning champion Marymount University. The Pacers finished with 186 points, followed by the Saints' 20.

Immaculata University finished in third with 117 points. Pratt Institute (63), Gwynedd Mercy (39), Neumann (20) and Saint Elizabeth (5) rounded out the standings. 

Marywood won three events at the championship meet. 

The Pacers earned a deciding championship-winning first place finish in the 4x400 relay. The team of Elizabeth Tomasetti, Abby Megotz, Caroline Walters and Carly Walters crossed the finish line in first place with a record-breaking time of 4:05.25. 

Marywood's 4x400 relay broke the championships record by 4.75 seconds. In addition to setting a school record, they also broke the conference overall record by 2.96 seconds. 

Elizabeth Tomasetti ran to a first-place finish in the 400 hurdles. She finished the course in 1:09.69, ahead of second-place Megotz's 1:14.87 mark. Tomasetti's win also secured a school record. 

Kalie Fernandez-Naughton won a conference championship in the triple jump. She hit a mark of 31 feet, 8 inches (9.65m). The Pacers took the top four slots in the triple jump. Alyssa Kavleski was second place with a distance of 30 feet, 5 3/4 inches (9.29m). Tasiyah Johnson trailed by 1 1/2 inches (9.25m). Braelyn Reed was fourth with a mark of 30 feet, 2 3/4 inches (9.21m).

The Pacers' tied or broke five school records at the meet.

In addition to anchoring the relay record, Carly Walters broke two individual records. Walters broke teammate Megotz's 200 dash record by six-hundredths of a second in 26.74 seconds for fourth place. Her third place finish  in the 400 broke a school record with a time of 1:00.15. She also recorded the fourth-best 800 time of 2:26.95 for second place. 

Braelyn Reed matched a school record in the 100 dash prelims. She sprinted to a 12.82-second finish to lead after prelims. She finished in fifth place. Her time had matched her previous time in the York meet earlier this season. 

In the 200 dash, Caroline Walters ran the fifth-best time in school history with a 27.17 second finish for seventh place. Walters ran the fourth-best 400 time one minute behind her twin sister (1:01.15) for a fourth-place finish. 

Paige Redman came in second place in the 10,000-meter. She ran a PR to rank fourth all-time at Marywood. 

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Janelle Sanabria clocked in at 13:02.02 for third place. She ranks fourth all-time in school history. 

In addition to her 400 hurdles record, Tomasetti ran the fifth-best 100 hurdles time at Marywood. She came in third place in 17.35 seconds. 

Alli Griscavage was runner-up in the discus with a mark of 106 feet, 1 inch (32.34m). Her throw ranked third all-time at Marywood. 

Tasiyah Johnson measured a long jump at 16 feet, 2 1/4 inches (4.93m). It was fifth all-time in school history. 

Marywood previously won three straight Atlantic East titles in 2019, 2021 and 2022. 


Six conference records were broke over the weekend. Marywood smashed the 4x400 record in 4:05.25. Gwynedd Mercy's Kaitlyn Snyder set a new javelin mark of 39.95 meters. Immaculata set its first three conference records: a 1.53-meter high jump from Jillian Humphries, 2:12.97 finish by Abby Grillo, and a 39:34.05 10K by Aubrey Donahue. Championship Most Valuable Athlete Ilana Hawks broke her own 400-meter record un 58.58 seconds.
