Men’s Soccer Ties Penn College in Season Opener

Scranton, Pa.- The Marywood University men's soccer team battled Penn College to a 1-1 draw Tuesday evening at Pacers Turf Field in the 2026 season opener.

Penn College struck early, taking a 1-0 lead just 2:02 into the match when Will Watson scored off an assist from Diego Diaz. Dawson Meckes brought the Pacers level in the 38th minute with an unassisted goal.

The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1, and neither side could find the decisive goal during a scoreless second half.

Marywood generated several quality chances after the break, finishing the match with a 14-9 advantage in shots. Owen Clearwaters registered three shots on goal, while Drew Smith recorded three shots and Meckes finished with one shot on goal and Marywood's lone goal.

The Pacers continued to pressure the Penn College defense in the closing stages. Clearwaters put a shot off the woodwork in the 85th minute, while Smith and Jake Brown each forced saves from Penn College goalkeeper Justin Crismale. Crismale finished with six saves in the match.

Marywood goalkeeper Kelton Ostrander made four saves, including several key stops to keep the Pacers within striking distance. Penn College held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.

Marywood (0-0-1) travels to Elizabethtown on Sunday, Sept. 6 for their first road match of the season.
