Wilson's Goal Helps Marywood Earn Draw at Ramapo

Mahwah, N.J.- The Marywood University men's soccer team battled Ramapo College to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon.

Neither team could find the back of the net during a scoreless first half, although Marywood generated seven shots and put four on target. Owen Clearwaters and Jack Forbes each tested Ramapo goalkeeper Zachary Natt twice during the opening 45 minutes, while Ryan Schweigart made one save to keep the Roadrunners off the scoreboard.

Ramapo came out aggressively after halftime, producing a series of early scoring chances and earning three corner kicks in the opening five minutes of the second period. Schweigart turned aside attempts from Dino Radoncic and Sam Leckner before making another save on Radoncic in the 59th minute.

The Roadrunners finally broke through in the 68th minute when Dylan Perez scored off an assist from Luca Cascio, giving Ramapo a 1-0 advantage.

Marywood answered 13 minutes later. Jayce Wilson found the back of the net in the 81st minute to level the match. Wilson's goal was unassisted.

The Pacers had an opportunity to take the lead late, but Natt stopped a shot from Clearwaters in the 85th minute. Schweigart also made a final save on Ramapo's Lucas Mielnikiewicz in the 84th minute as both defenses held firm through the closing minutes.

Marywood finished with 11 shots, including seven on goal, while Ramapo recorded 13 shots with seven on target. Schweigart and Natt each made six saves. Ramapo held a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Marywood moves to 1-1-2 with the tie. The Pacers' next contest is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. against Centenary University.
