Men’s Soccer Edges Penn State Berks

Reading, Pa.- The Marywood University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon at Berks Turf Field.

Jack Forbes provided the game's lone goal in the 11th minute. After Jared Sanborn's shot was saved by Penn State Berks goalkeeper Josh Martin, Forbes followed with a shot that found the back of the net at 10:21 to give the Pacers a 1-0 advantage.

Marywood controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Penn State Berks 6-1 while earning three corner kicks. Forbes continued to create opportunities, recording three shots in the opening 45 minutes. Kyle Falcon and Lucas Patterson also registered shots for the Pacers.

The Pacers carried their one-goal advantage into halftime and continued to apply pressure after the break. Marywood finished the match with a 15-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-4 edge in the second half. The Pacers also held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Penn State Berks had several opportunities to equalize, but Marywood goalkeeper Kelton Ostrander turned aside all four shots he faced on target. Ostrander made three saves in the second half. Martin made five saves for the Nittany Lions.

The victory moves Marywood to 2-2-2 on the season, while Penn State Berks falls to 0-6-2.

Marywood returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 22, when the Pacers host Wilkes University at 7 p.m.
