Pacers Pull Away from Wilkes for 4-2 Victory

Scranton, Pa. - Marywood University men's soccer used a three-goal first half outburst and added another goal early in the second half to pull away from Wilkes University, 4-2, Tuesday evening.

The Pacers improve to 3-2-2 on the season with the victory, while the Colonels fall to 0-6-0.

Marywood wasted little time establishing its offensive rhythm. The Pacers broke through in the 13th minute when Aiden Schmitt scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Jack Forbes.
Just over seven minutes later, Kyle Falcon doubled the advantage with an unassisted goal in the 21st minute.

Wilkes answered in the 36th minute when Giovanni Mazzola converted a penalty kick, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Marywood responded less than three minutes later, however, as Brian Marshall found the back of the net off a pass from Ryan Surowiec to restore the Pacers' two-goal cushion.

Marywood continued to pressure the Colonels before halftime, with Jake Brown hitting the post in the 43rd minute and Surowiec forcing a save shortly afterward.

The Pacers added to their lead early in the second half. In the 52nd minute, Forbes scored his second goal of the season, with Schmitt providing the assist.

Wilkes trimmed the margin to two in the 67th minute when Charles Floyd found the back of the net off a deflected save, but Marywood's defense kept the Colonels off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match.

Ryan Schweigart earned the victory in goal for the Pacers, making four saves while allowing one goal. Brett Rosser played as well and made two saves. Wilkes goalkeeper Tyler Tarnalicki recorded six saves.

Marywood finished the night with a 19-14 advantage in shots and put 11 attempts on frame compared to eight for Wilkes. They also held a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.

The Pacers host The City College of New York on Saturday.
