Woolf reaches 1,000 career digs

Chester, Pa.- The Marywood University women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories at a tri-match hosted by Widener University Saturday, defeating the host Pride in four sets before rallying past Kean University in five.

Marywood 3, Widener 1
The Pacers won with set scores of 25-18, 11-25, 25-20, 25-22.

Marywood opened the match with an early 5-0 advantage, fueled by two service aces from Madison Smith and kills from Gracee Work and Taylor Hallam. Widener battled back to even the first set at 11-11, but the Pacers responded with a 7-0 run to take a 20-16 lead.

Marywood closed out the set with kills from Genevieve Pollock and Billie Leet before Leet put away the final point for the first-set victory.

Widener answered emphatically in the second set. The Pride built a 9-4 lead before extending the advantage to 13-6 and eventually 20-10. Marywood was unable to recover as Widener closed the set on a 5-1 run to even the match.

The Pacers regained control in the third set, although neither team was able to create much separation early. Marywood held a 7-5 advantage before Widener moved ahead, taking a 9-7 lead. The Pacers eventually pulled even at 12-12 behind kills from Hallam and Work.

Marywood then turned a 16-16 tie into an 18-16 lead and continued to build momentum.

Catie Woolf contributed a service ace during a four-point stretch that pushed the Pacers, while Work added a kill. Marywood reached set point at 24-20 before Hallam delivered the final kill.

The fourth set remained tight throughout. Marywood held a 6-5 advantage early, but Widener responded with a 6-2 run to move ahead 11-9. The Pacers battled back, eventually taking a 13-11 lead behind consecutive Widener attack errors.

The Pride regained a 15-14 advantage, but Marywood answered with three straight points, including two kills from Hallam. The Pacers maintained the edge until Widener rallied to tie the set at 19.

Marywood responded with back-to-back points from Carolina Samaniego and Pollock to take a 21-19 lead. Widener again pulled even at 21, but a service error gave the Pacers a 22-21 advantage. After Widener tied the set at 22, Leet delivered a kill for a 23-22 Marywood lead, and another Widener attack error gave the Pacers match point.

Marywood finished the match with another point to secure the win.

Kean refused to go quietly in the fourth set. The Cougars built a 13-8 advantage before Marywood fought back to within one at 13-2. Kean responded with a 7-2 run to take a 20-16 lead and eventually reached set point at 24-19.
