Schuster Pegged Atlantic East Player of the Year

Graduate student first baseman led the conference in batting average and OPS

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University graduate student first baseman Jake Schuster was selected the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Year in baseball, officials announced Monday. Schuster ends his career as one of the most decorated student-athletes in school history.

Schuster was named Player of the Year after having the top batting average (.403), slugging percentage (.694) and on base percentage (.522) in the conference. The grad student had 50 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 30 RBIs on the season. Schuster also held a .996 fielding percentage with 218 putouts and eight assists at first base.

Among all active Division III hitters, Schuster ranks eighth in doubles (54), ninth in extra-base hits (379), 11th in triples (14), 13th in RBIs (156), 22nd in home runs (26) and 24th in walks (96). 

He was named Player of the Week on April 11. Schuster made two appearances on the conference honor roll. 

Schuster was also named to the Atlantic East First Team. He was previously named to the First Team Atlantic East in 2019 and First Team Colonial States Athletic Conference in 2018.
