Marywood Triumphs Over UMass Amherst in Rocket League Quarterfinals

Scranton, Pa. — After an undefeated season in the NECC Challengers Northeast B Division, Marywood Rocket League faced off against the Minutemen in the first round of the divisional playoffs.

Marywood faltered in game one, marking only the second game they lost over the entire fall season. The team did not back down, and would bounce back in game two with a decisive 4-0 score. Game three saw UMass fighting back, earning two goals to counter Marywood's own, but as the timer ticked down the Pacers took the lead with two more goals to put UMass in danger of elimination.

The Pacers team would not lose focus, drilling home four total goals across the last game, only letting in one goal from Amherst. Jack Biggs would score five goals with two assists overall, helping guide the team to victory along with James Cawley and James Marsh.

"The team seems unstoppable right now, we cleared a big hurdle early in the bracket going against UMass," said Austin Gagnon, Marywood Rocket League player and student broadcaster.

The Rocket League team, coached by Austin Sienkiewicz, reached 2nd place nationally in the Emergents division over the past year. Sienkiewicz spoke on the team's success: "The team has put in a lot of time over the last few weeks to get prepared for playoffs. This hard work has brought us far and I expect that we will maintain this level of hard work to try and continue our success in the rest of the bracket."
