Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University earned a 3-2 win over King's College Red Thursday in Overwatch. Marywood and King's have enjoyed a friendly rivalry ever since the conception of the program in Fall of 2021, due to proximity of both programs.
The Marywood roster took the first map in the best of 5, earning a clean victory on Ilios. Both teams moved to control, and after a very close battle, Marywood lost map 2 on Route 66. After a very solid defensive hold from both teams, the score was 1-1 going into map 3. Marywood would have a close loss on Suravasa, only giving up the map by a single point.
While Marywood now had their backs against the wall, hope was not lost for the Pacers. Moving into Esperança, Marywood pushed the objective decisively and earned a map back, putting both teams onto match point. Hollywood would be the final map, and after some heavy back-and-forth close teamfights, Marywood would emerge victorious.
This only marks the Pacers' second victory over King's in Marywood history. It is the first win since the 2022 season.
"This team has been working especially hard this season, and it's really paying off," said coach Matthew Olaes. Marywood now moves to 1-2 on the season, with the goal of making playoffs.
