NCAA PREVIEW | Marywood Takes on No. 5 Johns Hopkins in Charm City

Marywood qualified for its second NCAA Division III tournament in school history

Baltimore – Marywood University will compete in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championships for the second time in school history on Wednesday. The Atlantic East Conference champion Pacers will head to Baltimore to take on No. 5 Johns Hopkins University at 4 p.n.

The Pacers (14-6) captured their second Atlantic East title with a 2-0 victory over Immaculata University on Saturday. Dariane Jones scored the game-winning goal in the 38th minute off a Cydney Lahr assist. Jordan Saybe manufactured an insurance goal in the third quarter. 

Corrin Hasty was named both the Tournament MVP and Elite 20 winner for highest GPA at the championships site. 

Marywood has the second-most wins in program history. The Pacers went undefeated in conference play to secure the No. 1 seed in the conference playoffs.

Scouting the Blue Jays
Fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins checks in with a 17-3 record. The Blue Jays upended No. 16 Ursinus College 4-1 in the Centennial Conference championship. 
  • Marywood and Johns Hopkins have played once in program history. The Blue Jays defeated the Pacers 3-0 in Madison, N.J. on Sept. 7, 1985. 
  • Saturday's match will be the first time the two teams have faced off in the Atlantic East Final. In 2023, the Pacers faced the Mighty Macs in the Semifinals and the Pacers advanced with a 2-0 victory. 
  • The Blue Jays have six players in double digits for points. Lila Slattery led the offense with 17 goals and eight assists for 42 points. Emily Amsden contributed nine goals and five assists for 23 points. 
  • Johns Hopkins outscored opponents 61-14 this season. 
  • Lila Slattery, Liz Falterer, Jenna Halpin and Aubrey Kilgore were selected to the First Team All-Centennial Conference. 
  • Hopkins is ranked sixth in the most recent NPI rankings. The Blue Jays are 1-1 against teams with a higher rank, beating #4 Shenandoah 3-1 and losing to #2 Salisbury 2-0. Johns Hopkins is 16-2 against teams with a lower rank. 
  • Hopkins is sixth in the country in goals against average. Aubrey Kilgore is ninth in Division III with a .72 goals against average.

  • In the Pacers' only NCAA appearance, they lost 1-0 to FDU-Florham on Nov. 13, 2019. Marisa Mongioi had three defensive saves, and Sara Sterchak had a defensive stop. Kerri Mountz made 12 saves. 
  • Johns Hopkins has been the NCAA Division III runner-ups each of the past three seasons. The Blue Jays lost to six-time defending champion Middlebury College each time.
  • The winner of the Marywood-Hopkins will advance to the Middlebury Regional. They will take on the winner between Ohio Wesleyan and SUNY Cortland.
