Marywood Basketball to Honor Veterans in Salute to Service Game

Women host Delaware Valley at 1 p.m., and the men take on King's at 3 p.m.

Scranton, Pa. — Marywood University men's and women's basketball will host Salute to Service Games on Saturday to honor veterans. Proceeds from the Insalaco Arena doubleheader to support military and veteran scholarships at Marywood.

Marywood's women's basketball team takes on Delaware Valley University at 1 p.m. in the Insalaco Arena. The Pacers' men's basketball team welcome King's College at approximately 3 p.m.

Raffle tickets will be available throughout the doubleheader.

Abbey, a service dog in training through America's Vet Dogs, will be in attendance. Abbey is being raised thru the puppy prison program out of the Dallas Correctional Institute and their weekend raisers. America's Vet Dogs will have a table available for information on the program.

Marywood University and the Office of Military and Veteran Services are supporting Abbey by allowing her to attend events here at Marywood which helps in her training to become a service dog. Abbey will gain exposure to crowds, loud noises, bleachers and many different "balls" during this time. This allows her to ignore the distractions and still focus on her handler's needs.

Army service vehicles will be parked at the venue. An information table will be available for Marywood Office of Military and Veterans Services.

Representatives from the National Guard, Army and Air Force will be on hand at the Center for Athletics and Wellness. Admissions representatives will also be in attendance for prospective students.

Rosalyn Page, a Marywood student in the Army ROTC program and a student-athlete with the women's indoor track and field program, will be coordinating a color guard for both games. A performer will be on hand to sing the National Anthem ahead of tipoff.

Parking is available behind the Center for Athletics and Wellness. Handicapped parking is offered near the Tennis Courts.

Both the men's and women's basketball teams are off to a strong start this season with a 5-3 overall record.
