Baseball Picked Seventh in Atlantic East Preseason Poll

Marywood returns Rookie of the Year Christian Michak

Lancaster, Pa. – Marywood University was picked seventh in the Atlantic East Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll, officials announced Friday.

Immaculata picked to win its third straight Atlantic East Title, with 36 points and six first place votes in the Baseball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
The Mighty Macs return the 2023 Atlantic East Player and Pitcher of the Year in Jason Hughes and Josh Crowding. The duo led the conference in many categories as they vie for another Atlantic East Crown. Immaculata finished 2023 with a record of 29-13 and a conference record of 15-3. The Mighty Macs return a veteran lineup for the 2024 season. 

Marymount finished second in the polls picking up the final first place and a total of 31 points. The Saints fell in the conference tournament a season ago as they look to return to the tournament. Atlantic East First Team pitcher Andrew Schaeb, infielder Bobby Leitzel, and relief pitcher Owen Mead return to the lineup to lead the Saints. 

2023 Conference runner up Cabrini landed third in the polls with 22 points. The Cavaliers return all three first team honorees in Jaden Dickerson, Colton Narciso, and Dustin Sutton.  

Neumann finished close behind in the polls with 19 total points. The Knights finished 2023 with a 19-23 overall record, 8-10 in conference play. Neumann returns key contributors Andrew Curran and Nick Glebocki, who both earned Atlantic East All Conference honors in 2023. 

Centenary tallied 17 points for fifth in the polls. The Cyclones finished 2023 with  a 17-23 record including 6-12 in Atlantic East play. Centenary finished just outside of the tournament selection in 2023 as they look to build on the momentum.  

Gwynedd Mercy landed sixth in the polls with 14 overall points. The Griffins open the newly constructed Frank O. Genuardi Legends Baseball field. This will mark the first home games for Gwynedd Mercy since April 30 of 2022. 

Marywood closes out the polls with 8 points for seventh in the poll. The Pacers return the 2023 Atlantic East Rookie of the Year, Christian Michak to the lineup this season.
 
Against non-conference opponents, Cabrini opens the season against Messiah on Saturday, February 10th, while Centenary's first pitch of the season will be Friday, February 16th against Washington and Lee. Marymount and Marywood begin play on Saturday February 17th and Sunday February 18th respectively. Gwynedd Mercy is the next to play with a game on February 23rd. Immaculata and Neumnan are the last to begin play on Saturday February 24th. 

Conference play will commence on Friday, March 22nd,  with Centenary hosting Gwynedd Mercy, Marymount playing at Neumann, and Immaculata traveling to Marywood. 
 
The 2024 Atlantic East Tournament is set to begin with the first games at two locations on May 8th. The tournament will continue with three games on Friday. May 10th ghosted by the top seed. The tournament will continue with games as needed on Saturday, May 11th.
