Women’s Volleyball Tabbed Fourth in Regional Rankings

Indianapolis, Ind.- For the second consecutive week, the Marywood University women's volleyball team was ranked in the NCAA's recent Division III NCAA Power Index (NPI) regional rankings.

The Pacers are slated fourth in Region IV after being selected fifth last week.

According to the Oct. 18 rankings, Marywood (22-2) sits 53rd nationally with an NPI of 57.287.

NPI is a system that houses the division's statistical data and objectively applies the selection criteria to the data based on the sport committee's established weighted criteria.

NPI is a combination of the following: winning percentage; strength of schedule; home-away multiplier; quality win bonus; and overtime results (when relevant).

The weight of winning percentage versus strength of schedule is often referred to as one of the "dials" that a sport committee can adjust, placing any subjectivity within the criteria themselves. This is the third year NCAA Division III has used NPI rankings.

Stevens leads the latest Region IV rankings, followed by NYU in second and Rowan in third. Marywood ranks fourth, while DeSales sits fifth. Stockton claims the sixth spot, with Misericordia rounding out the rankings in seventh. Four MAC Freedom programs are represented in this week's rankings: Stevens, Marywood, DeSales, and Misericordia.

Region IV consists of teams in the following conferences: City University of New York (CUNY) Athletic Conference, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom, New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC), United East Conference, and the University Athletic Association (UAA).
