Ayers Named Atlantic East Player of the Week

Haddonfield, N.J. — Marywood University junior catcher Joel Ayers was named Atlantic East Conference Player of the Weekm officials announced Monday. Danny Tiedemann was selected to the Atlantic East Weekly Honor Roll.

Ayers opened the season with a .588 batting average in five games, leading the Pacers to a 3-2 record. He scored nine runs, drove in seven RBIs, and stole four bases in as many attempts. Ayers had an on-base percentage of .696. In a loss to Scranton, Ayers went 3 for 4 with a double. In a doubleheader sweep over Notre Dame (Md.), he was 5 for 8 with six runs and six RBIs. Defensively, he had three assists from the catching position. 

Tiedemann threw five scoreless innings over two games to open the season. He allowed just three hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts. Tiedemann kept opposing hitters to a .188 batting average. He opened the week with a scoreless inning of relief against Scranton. Tiedemann limited Rosemont to three hits in four innings to earn the win.

Marywood is idle this week and will compete in Florida over Spring Break.
