Marywood Opens Track & Field Season at Lock Haven

Lock Haven, Pa. - The Marywood University women's track and field team competed for the first time in more than a calendar year. The Pacers competed at Lock Haven University's Elliston Early Bird Open on Saturday.

Marywood was the lone Division III institution at the competition. With the exception of NAIA Point Park University, the meet was composed entirely of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) colleges in NCAA Division II.

Shae Smith had three Top 6 performances in her outdoor debut. Smith placed fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.11 seconds. She cleared 4 feet, 9 inches (1.45m) for fifth in the high jump. Smith measured at 33 feet, 2 inches to earn sixth in the triple jump. Each of her performances also were among the top three in school history for their respective events.

Maryam Hamidi recorded the second-fastest 400 time in school history. Hamidi ran a 1:03.94 to finish in ninth place. Cydney Lahr also captured ninth place in the 800, crossing the finish line in 2:33.85.

Kristen Persico received the top individual place out of Marywood student-athlete by taking fourth in the javelin. Out of 15 participants, Persico threw 99 feet, 7 inches (30.35m).

Marywood's distance medley relay of Alyssa Williams, Hayley Gaines, Cydney Lahr and Molly Repecki established a record of 14:33 for a third-place finish. The 1,600 relay team of Julia Van Horne, Caitlin Mills, Hamidi and Smith were fourth in 4:22.

Repecki established a new school record in the 3,000 by finishing in 11:52.4. Her ninth place performance paced Gentile (12:10), Williams (12:15) and Taylor Seprosky (13:22).

Marywood will toe up against PSAC competition again on Saturday, April 3 at West Chester University.
