Men's Swimming Lands Third in Pre-Championship Poll

Competition begins Thursday through Sunday in St. Mary's City

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University was picked third in the Atlantic East Conference men's swimming pre-championship poll. The 2025 Atlantic East Conference Men's & Women's Swimming Championships will take place at St. Mary's College of Maryland from Thursday to Sunday.

Prior to the championship, the coaches from all six institutions voted on the 2025 Pre-Championship Coaches' Poll, and St. Mary's was selected as the men's favorite with 16 points and four of the first place votes. Marymount picked up one first place vote for a total of 12 points and second in the poll, while Marywood rounded out the top three with nine total points.

Marywood was picked to finish third this year with a young team. First year Alex McCarey leads the way. He is currently seeded sixth in the 200 backstroke and ninth in the 500 freestyle and 100 back.

The Seahawks finished as the conference runners-up a season ago as they look to the reigning 2024 Atlantic East Swimmer of the Year, Luke Schwenk. The senior owns the top time in the conference meet for the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke. He currently ranks 15th and 13th in the country in the 50 free (20.26) and 100 free (44.57). First year Harrison Greenwald sits first in the conference in the 500 freestyle and the 200 freestyle and the 400 IM.

The Saints will look to go for a three-peat as Atlantic East Champions after a successful conference meet a season ago. Marymount Junior Carsten Hicks returns to the lineup as a member of the All Conference First team (100 Fly, 200 Free Relay, 400 Free Relay), and three time all Conference Second team member (200 Medley Relay, 400 Medley Relay). Hicks returns as the second seed in the 100 butterfly as he looks to defend his title. Saints sophomore Luke Claudy sits as the second seed in the 50 and 100 freestyle going into the conference championship, while Evan Pak sits second in the 200 breaststroke.

Immaculata sits at fourth in the polls with eight points. Immaculata is led by Gabriel Bocaj who sits 4th in the 200 butterfly after finishing 4th last year.

Gallaudet closes out the poll with four total points. The Bison have swimmers in the top ten in the 400 IM, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, and the 100 butterfly.

The championship awards ceremony will take place at the conclusion of the meet Sunday evening where the following will be recognized: Team Champion, Team Runner-Up, Swimmer of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Elite 20 recipient, and Coaching Staff of the Year.
