Marywood Leads Atlantic East with Six Team Academic Awards

Men's Basketball, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Tennis join three fall winners

Lancaster, Pa. — Marywood University led the Atlantic East Conference with six Team Academic Awards in the 2024-25 academic year, officials announced this week. It is the fourth consecutive year that Marywood has led the Atlantic East. 

Men's Lacrosse, Women's Tennis and Men's Basketball earned the highest team Grade Point Average in the conference. The Pacers' Women's Cross Country, Men's Soccer and Women's Volleyball programs received the award in the fall. 

The Team Academic honor is awarded to the institution's team that had the top GPA in its respective sport through the semester(s) it played in. The GPA is calculated for each season as follows:
  • Fall Season Teams (WSOC, MSOC, WVB, FH, WXC, MXC): Fall Semester Grades
  • Winter Season Teams (WBB, MBB, WSWIM, MSWIM): Cumulative of Fall and Spring Semester Grades
  • Spring Season Teams (MLAX, WLAX, BB, SB, WFLAG, MT&F, WT&F, MTEN, WTEN): Spring Semester Grades
Women's Tennis recorded the highest GPA of any winter or spring team with a 3.81 GPA. Only the Pacers' Women's Cross Country team had a higher GPA in 2024-25 with a 3.85. It marks the second consecutive season Dana Ciccotti's squad received the honor. 

Men's Basketball also received the award for the second straight season. Coach Jon Showers' squad produced the second-highest yearly GPA in program history. Since the award's inception began in 2013-14 during the Colonial States Athletics Conference affiliation, Marywood's Men's Basketball has a university-best six Team Academic Awards. Marywood won the CSAC honors in 2013-14, 2014-15, and 2017-18, and the Atlantic East honors in 2019-20, 2023-24 and 2024-25. The Pacers recorded a 3.38 GPA. 

Men's Lacrosse won its first Atlantic East Team Academic Award with a 3.45 GPA. The Pacers previously won two Team Academic Awards (2017, 2018) in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. 

Marywood has 55 Team Academic Awards since 2013-14. 

Marywood leads the Atlantic East with 35 Team Academic since the conference's incorporation in 2018-19. The Pacers lead Immaculata (31), Gwynedd Mercy (24), Neumann (15), Marymount (14), Cabrini (13), Centenary (4), Cedar Crest (2), Pratt (2), Wesley (1), Manhattanville (1), Gallaudet (1), and Penn State Schuylkill (1).

Overall Marywood held the most team GPA winners with six, followed closed behind by Gwynedd Mercy with five teams. Immaculata had a strong spring with three winners, with Neumann having two teams. Four other teams each had one team with the top GPA from Gallaudet, Manhattanville,  Penn State Schuylkill, and Pratt. 

Overall, all eight conference institutions were recognized with a team honor.
